About Pépé Bradock:

Parisian DJ, producer and remixer, Julien Auger began his musical career by learning guitar at the age of 14 and playing with various Parisian Jazz Funk bands. It was around this time that he began DJing with a few different Hip Hop bands and also started to produce his first tracks for them.

As raves became larger and more popular in the early 90s, Pepe discovered Techno and House music. His first two records were released on BPM Records under the ‘Trankilou’ moniker with Ark and Doobass, before he changed his name to Pepe Bradock. His musical influences range from Jazz to Dub Reggae which culmulates in his hypnotic production style.

Pépé Bradock has done remixes for New Jersey’s Blaze, Cassius, Alex Gopher amongst many others. His biggest hits to date include ‘Burning’ and ‘Life’ both for the French label Kif. Apart from that Pepe has produced for well-known House labels including Classic (UK), Silver (France) and Nuphonic (UK).

As a DJ, Pépé Bradock has spun in almost every major club in the world and is known for his versatile, and mesmerising mixing style.

About Tasho:

Tasho is a long time defender of the San Francisco dance community. As a resident of the timeless Stompy club night, Tasho (nee Tasho Nicolopulous) has been bringing jam after jam to Bay-Area clubs for over a decade. Alongside production partner and vocal whiz Monty Luke, his first single for mothership — “Paranoid” — has had trainspotters clamoring for a sneak peak. Expect much more to come.

About Mikebee:

DJ mikebee aka Michelangelo Battaglia has been active in SF’s electronic music community since 1994. Raised on a diet of music as a child, Mike studied Opera at Carnegie Mellon University in 1991 before leaving in 1993 to pursue a life of dance music, inspired by his early-90′s adventures in the East Coast rave scene. Moving to SF in 1994, Mike immediately reimagined himself as an atmospheric drum’n'bass DJ in the mid-to-late 90′s, being involved in countless regular parties, most notably Ikon Massive at 330 Ritch St. (1995-1996) and La Belle Epoque Saturdays at The Top (now Underground SF 1996-2001) where he was a resident. After LBE’s demise, Mike and his True Intent crew kept the night going as promoters from 2001 to 2004 playing 2-Step Garage, Broken Beat and more under the names Bottom Heavy (2001-2002), True Intent (2002) and Safe (2002-2004) before The Top’s demise in 2004.

Mike has also opened up for the cream of dance music in nearly every venue in town again and again, including LTJ Bukem on the main floor of 1015 Folsom (and in other venues), Grooverider at the now-defunct Justice League, Mark Farina, numerous Sunset and Bulletproof boat parties and campouts and many, many more including regular work for the Blasthaus production crew. Mike also is co-owner of the SF-based atmospheric D&B label True Intent (1999-2003) and has been a regular producer of two different shows on KUSF since 1996: Future Breaks (1996-2002) and The Friday Night Session (2002-present) where he continues to co-produce to this day along with Andrew Jervis (Ubiquity Recordings) and Tomas Palermo (Forward Ever).

In the early part of the decade, mike pioneered the sounds of 2-Step and Broken Beat in SF, being responsible for the first local appearances of many forward-thinking acts like Bugz in the Attic (Afronaught, Daz-I-Kue, Seiji), Domu, Horsepower Productions and Kode 9 at Safe and his massively popular underground Rewind (aka REW) at Tenderloft. His support of the emerging 2-Step scene put him in a place where he was a stalwart and original supporter of then-evolving Dubstep subgenre, now blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon. As a result, the local SF dubstep scene considers mike a sort of elder statesman.

In addition, Mike was a staff writer for XLR8R magazine (1996-2005) writing features and regular reviews, and has been published by the SF Bay Guardian and Urb magazine, where he helmed his own column from 1996-1997 called The Bee’s Buzz in addition to writing regular reviews from 1997 through 2000, as well as writing for a slew of now-defunct music magazines like Sweater and Revolution.

Since 2006 Mike has been feeling the sounds of house, disco, techno and downtempo and as a DJ has been concentrating his energy there on the few occasions he does play out (aside from the occasional gig playing classic Drum’n'Bass or 2-Step for the Grime City kids). In 2008, he was featured in the SF Weekly as a “tastemaker” and “music maven” where he was called “a true vanguard in the S.F. music community”. (http://www.sfweekly.com/2008-03-12/music/making-a-buzz/) For his day job, Mike works for Amoeba Music (since 1998) as the new product buyer and manager of the electronic/dance section since 2004.

Upcoming projects include a live music venture conducting a 12-piece house music orchestra which includes Jonah Sharp and Warren Huegel of Tussle, podcast mixes for a slew of people including DC Recordings’ Samurai FM radio show, and a few upcoming DJ appearances.

His productions have been released on Liebe*Detail, Floppy Funk, Utensil, and SF’s own Dirtybird.

About Nikita

It wasn’t too long ago that NIKITA ventured out from Denver, Colorado to pursue his dreams of working in the music industry. A lifelong love affair with music began as a young boy playing piano, singing and dancing… It wasn’t until later later in life when Nikita attended a warehouse party that would change his life forever (Circa 93’) – Nikita became one of Denver’s ‘underground party-scene offspring’!

In 2000, Nikita left Colorado for California… In the past eight years Nikita’s perseverance and pure love for quality dance music has placed him among the top DJs of San Francisco’s world-famous club scene. In 2005 Nikita was chosen to host his own radio show on Northern California’s Energy 92.7 FM – The Massive Mix. It was Nikita’s raw talent that also landed him a residency at San Francisco’s legendary nightclub, The EndUp.

Performing anywhere from 2 to 8 hours; Nikita’s playfulness behind the decks takes you on a ride seamlessly blending sick minimal grooves, heavy basslines, melodic synths, and twisted beats, while still keeping it soulful and deep. Nikita has played along side the likes of Lee Burridge, Steve Lawler, Steve Bug, M.A.N.D.Y., Tom Stephan (Superchumbo), Craig Richards and Damian Lazarus, with inspirations coming from friends like Ms. Honey Dijon, Tedd Patterson and Danny Tenaglia. Through his broad musical taste and genre bending, Nikita has always managed to create a unique dance floor experience that continues to draw a diverse audience.

About The Worker:

The Worker (Fiction)

The Worker began DJ’ing in Seattle in the late 90′s – exploring the deep smokey sounds of downtempo, instrumental hip hop, nu jazz, soul and funk – sounds from labels such as: Compost Records, Sonar Kollektiv, K7! and G-Stone, while producing club events at Seattle’s Speakeasy, 700 Club and Habana’s. These events mixed house and hip hop DJs with live acts that explored new sides of soul, funk, and jazz – groups such as Maktub, Critter’s Buggin, Unispere (w/ Reggie Watts), Crack Sabbath and others. Many of these nights also included additional performers such as dancers, painters, and playful theatrical performances.

In 2001 he moved to San Francisco to finish school and shortly after graduating began working for the Mission based eclectic world record label Six Degrees Records – exploring contemporary global electronic music. He produced and DJ’ed a weekly global electronic event called “Stateless” with DJ Special Agent K which grew into a monthly at Amnesia and eventually Rickshaw Stop – showcasing Smith and Mighty’s Rob Smith, DJ/rupture, Filastine, Maga Bo, Kush Arora, Jef Stott, Mexican Dubwiser, Timeblind, Maneesh The Twista and others. At the same time he also produced the monthly Brazilian electronic night “Novo Soundz” at supperclub focusing on current Brazilian electronic artists with live video mixing, samba dancers and acrobatics. In 2007 and 2008 he produced and DJ’ed the label’s WMC showcase events at Opium Garden, CIFO and The Standard Miami – which featured artists: Nickodemus, Gaudi, Maga Bo, Jef Stott, David Starfire, among others.

Over the last few years he’s concentrated his DJ’ing and promotional energies on some of his primary musical loves, house and techno. Exploring the less conventional terrain of these genres, with mutant strains of disco, The Worker and the crew Fiction began their monthly night three years ago – an unpredictably wild affair at Polk St.’s Vertigo. In 2009, they moved to San Francisco’s techno “epicenter,” 222 Hyde, and began hosting some of SF’s finest guest DJs – while establishing a unique musical flavor and solid, enthusiastic following. In addition, over the past few years, they’ve hosted one-offs at venues such as Mighty, Temple, supperclub, Pink, Asia SF and the Polk St. Fair. This has included opening sets for DJs and producers Adam Beyer, Joel Mull, John Selway, Claude Von Stroke, Worthy, Landshark, Lee Foss and Rob Rives.

About The Juanlivet (Jonah Sharp & Dimitri SFC):

The Juanlivet is the perfect tribute to the skill and judgement of the craftsmen involved in making underground dance music. The original new spirit character, deep and soulful, has been faithfully retained during years of careful maturation. The final finish in rare refined beats yields a sublime, intense sound of powerful yet elegant character.

About Jonah Sharp:

Jonah Sharp aka Spacetime Continuum played an important role during the 90’s in consolidating the global experimental ambient and techno scene through his Reflective Records imprint as well as releasing a string of solo studio albums on Astralwerks and Virgin Records . He has worked with many artists including a live album with writer and philosopher Terence McKennna, and collaborations with Mixmaster Morris, Haruomi Hosono of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Pete Namlook, Ursula Rucker, Move D, Tetsu Inoue and Bill Laswell to name but a few.

An Edinburgh, Scotland native, Sharp started his musical life as a drummer, playing with various art-school punk bands inspired by the super-8 film ethic of the likes of Caberet Voltaire and early Human League. After briefly flirting with the late 80’s London acid jazz club scene as a session drummer, he soon realised the possibilities of a sampler and a drum machine as a solo performer. Excited by the sounds of Detroit techno, Chicago house and the electronic music that was coming from Europe, he started performing live and DJing at parties in London in 1989 and decided that chill- out or “other” room offered a lot of potential for realizing what he was trying to communicate musically.

He left London for America in 1992, settling in San Francisco, where he established his Reflective label and recorded the bulk of his work to date, split over a number of different project headings ( Emit Ecaps, Alien Community, Reagenz, Electro Harmonix and Strange Attractor). His most consistently visible work though has been as Spacetime Continuum, most of which was released by Astralwerks and Reflective.

He has performed live electronic music and Dj’d all over the world including a slot at the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 curated by Carl Craig and on Mount Fuji in 1999 in front of 18,000 people during an insane torrential rain storm. He has remixed the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Meat Beat Manifesto and Matt Herbert and had his music in numerous movies including Darren Aronofsky’s 1998 movie” π ” .

More recently he has completed the soundtrack for the documentary “Consume This Movie !” and has spent time co-writing, co-producing and touring with The Global Drum Project, who include tabla player Zakir Hussein and Ex Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart. The album, “Global Drum Project” released in Oct 2007, has been nominated for a 2009 Grammy Award.

August 2008 saw him perform with Mixmaster Morris live on the main stage at The Big Chill in the UK playing songs from their upcoming collaborative project. Currently he is in a studio in San Francisco writing new solo Spacetime material, finishing work with Move D on the new REAGENZ album and gigging and writing material with Nigerian talking drum maestro Sikiru Adepoju.

Last night, I had a guest DJ spot at the East Bay’s Motor City Jam. It was a lot of fun. The DJ before me was playing harder and faster than I normally do, so I ended up going with the same flow that was established, resulting in a fun & bangin techy set. Got a lot of good feedback on it, so maybe there will be more bangin in the future.

Motor City Jam reminded me of the old days of Betalounge, an SF pioneer in broadcasting dance music in the web.
